Our Story

There are over eight thousand children and young people in Hitchin, many of whom have little or no contact with the church and dismiss the Christian faith as irrelevant.

PHASE was born out of a passion to reconnect the church with young lives and to make a positive difference to their lives.  Our primary mandate is to work within the town’s secondary schools and in partnership with the churches, demonstrating the reality of our faith through
professional and credible input.

In 2002 PHASE was able to employ a schools worker who worked with the local secondary schools providing lessons, assemblies and pastoral support.

In 2007, Kieran Murphy joined as Director to help develop and build upon what PHASE was already doing in the town

During this time, PHASE took a very active role within the Forum and began to oversee all the work it did and helped plan and deliver the Forum’s first town-wide residential activity for young people, namely Slum Survivor

2009 With Chris Baker, the previous schools worker moving on, we were able to employ Paul Harris as the next member of the team.

It has been an exciting journey so far and we are looking forward to what the future has in store!

PHASE is committed to work collaboratively with churches across the town to provide a programme of activities for leaders, young people and children, which will envision and equip people in their faith.
